Widespread in forests and woodlands from central New South Wales (around Nerriga) to south-east Queensland where it grows on the coast, tablelands, western slopes and plains.
Large shrub with long stiff linear leaves and rusty red flower spikes. Frost/drought hardy, adaptable to most soils including clay, regenerates after fire, full sun to part shade. Suited to windbreaks, background shrub, screen. Can be pruned back hard. Attracts birds.
