Clump-forming perennial with dark green, strappy foliage and white iris-like flowers on tall stems with yellow and mauve markings in the inside of the flower. Seeds freely and forms large colonies of plants. Introduced from South Africa and naturalised. Used widely in public plantings because of its hardiness and low maintenance. Frost and drought hardy. Do not cut back flower stems. Can be divided like other iris. Full sun to shade, rockeries, embankments, suppresses weeds.
