Telopea truncata Tasmanian waratah

Endemic to Tasmania where it is found on moist acidic soils at altitudes of 600 to 1200 m. The yellow form is a parent of the hybrid 'Essie's Gift'.
Open shrub with leathery leaves and large open heads of bright red flowers which appear at the ends of the branches. Must have a well-drained but moist site with some clay content. Full sun to part shade. Frost hardy. Specimen, against the house, courtyards, large tubs. Prune to maintain density. There is a yellow form and a few other pale colour forms. Sensitive to fertilisers. Use slow release granules or Blood and Bone.
