Grows naturally in the Sydney basin to Wollongong and in the Blue Mountains
Open spreading shrub with prickly foliage and masses of bright red spider flowers. Frost and drought hardy. Adaptable to most soils. Foreground shrub, rockeries, embankments. Attracts birds and bees.
Note: Weeding under prickly shrubs can be difficult. It is a good idea to cover the ground with cardboard or thick layers of newspaper then cover with mulch.
