Grows naturally in sandy soil on granite, rarely on basalt, in eucalypt open forest, woodland and heath at altitudes of 850-1480 malong the ranges of northern NSW.
Attractive spreading shrub with narrow dark foliage and very large orange brushes with dark purple styles. The brushes turn into large woody seed cones which persist on the shrub. Frost and drought hardy and suited to a variety of soil types but requires a reasonable amount of drainage. Suited to all gardens as a background or understorey shrub. Easy care. Highly bird attractive.
